Internet Explorer is Obsolete

Many years ago, Internet Explorer was a widely used browser. But according to StatCounter, Internet Explorer’s dominance of the web browser market has fallen drastically, from 68.57% in July 2008, to just 3.01% in July 2018. This is due to two main factors:

1. Microsoft has abandoned Internet Explorer. They no longer support/update Internet Explorer and have created a new web browser: Microsoft Edge

2. There are tons of great browser options, including Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge.

Here’s the tradeoff:

Current browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge) are regularly updated to make use of advancements in programming languages. The benefits are multi-fold, including styling, functionality enhancements, speed, ranking, mobile experience and future-proofing. To make a website that is compatible with Internet Explorer requires the forfeiture of many of these benefits.

What does a modern website look like on Internet Explorer?

It will look a bit “off.” Certain sections may look stretched and certain components may not render as intended. It will still be usable, it just won’t look as good as it does on updated browsers. The good thing is, people still using Internet Explorer will be used to seeing things broken around the internet so they may not even notice.

I use Internet Explorer… which browser should I start using?

Thankfully, you have a lot more choices for web browsers than just Internet Explorer. In our opinion, the two best browsers are Chrome & Firefox. These are completely free to download and work on both PC & Mac.

Like Chrome, Firefox is another great choice that functions well on just about any platform. Firefox is faster and lighter than ever, making it a great alternative to Chrome. There are a lot of good reasons to stop using Internet Explorer, and chances are, your customers won’t be using that particular browser to access your website much longer either.
