Cloudflare: Faster Sites/Better Ranking
Optimizing your website for maximum ranking on Google involves site speed optimization—how quickly your pages load for visitors. Big Tuna incorporates a myriad of speed optimizations, and one of the most important is Cloudflare.
Cloudflare acts as a performance and security layer between your website and the internet. By caching and distributing your site across multiple servers, Cloudflare ensures your visitors experience significantly faster load times. And faster sites rank better in search engines like Google.
The Key Benefits of Cloudflare
- Improved Website Speed (Better Rankings): Cloudflare’s Content Delivery Network (CDN) stores your site on multiple servers. Instead of relying on a single server, visitors are served your site from the nearest location—making your site load dramatically faster. Speed is a critical ranking signal, so this directly impacts your visibility on Google.
- Stronger Security: Cloudflare filters out malicious bots, abusive traffic, and unauthorized crawlers before they ever reach your website. This keeps your site safer and more reliable.
The Set-Up
For most Big Tuna clients, you won’t have to do anything—we’ll set up Cloudflare for you automatically.
However, if your nameservers are not pointed at Big Tuna and your site is live via an A-record, you will need to set up Cloudflare yourself. Here’s how:
- Go to Cloudflare and create a free account.
- Add your domain to your Cloudflare account.
- Cloudflare will scan your existing DNS records (you’ll want to confirm they match what you already have in place).
- Cloudflare will provide you with new nameservers. Update your domain’s registrar settings to use these Cloudflare nameservers.
- Once the update is complete, your website traffic will begin routing through Cloudflare—unlocking speed, security, and performance benefits.
Your site is still hosted on Big Tuna servers, but Cloudflare will enhance performance and security on top of that.
The Bottom Line
Cloudflare doesn’t just make your website faster—it makes it more competitive. Faster websites keep visitors engaged, improve user experience, and help you rank higher on Google.
Whether we set it up for you or you manage it yourself, Cloudflare is a simple way to give your website a powerful boost.
